whatever your job
It's Open Studios time once more. This weekend, May 3 and 4, as in tomorrow and Sunday, meaning I just sent out an email about 7 hours ago. Plenty of notice! I will be with 5 other artists showing work at Catalyst Gallery, 137 Main St. For a map and more info about visiting studios around Beacon, see www.beaconopenstudios.org, and pick up a catalog somewhere when you get to town. I have a mix of new and old work up, including the drawings from April's show, and the two works below. Below the big red dot, that is.
| Superior, acrylic & collage on wood, 3 3/4" square. |
| Whatever Your Job, acrylic & ink on canvas, 24" square. As in, 'Whatever Your Job, There's a '60 Ford Light Duty For You.' What's better than a '60 Ford? Five '60 Fords. |

swing and a miss
I hadn't posted this drawing yet- another 9"x12", similar to a big painting I did in 2012, itself based on a Rudy Burckhardt photograph. I just had all these drawings in our recent show (closed today) at the gallery, and only a few sold, so they are also available for purchase online at my Etsy shop, called, easily enough, EricaHauserArtist. Pretty good prices for original drawings I must say- I just want to get them out there.
Also I did not in fact get accepted to that Dorsky Museum show I entered recently. Followed by another "Sorry, nope" from a (admittedly random) NYC gallery that put out a call. So I'm batting 0 for 4 (or 5?) this year already. Might stop entering stuff for awhile, just focus on making. And then putting more of the effort into finding opportunities that my work is more suited to, rather than shot-in-the-dark theme & juried calls. There is a mild disappointment, but it never means very much because I rarely learn why my work wasn't selected. Swing and a miss. (Springtime baseball announcer, Sunday afternoon game on the TV.) Sigh and a shrug.

anna maria island, florida
I spent four days on an island off the gulf coast of Florida called Anna Maria, staying in a house with my mother, my brother, my sister-in-law and their 3 boys. We saw many birds, seashells, sunsets, some manta rays, a dolphin, crabs and other scuttling things that live in shells, we walked on the beach, ate ice cream and drank fresh-squeezed orange juice, we did an informal but respectful Seder, we swam in the sea and the pool, finished a jigsaw puzzle and folded paper airplanes, made some drawings. To get there and back we crossed the Sunshine Skyway. It was an altogether pleasant week and I felt so good to be warm after such a long cold winter. It may be spring here now, though it's being doled out rather sparingly. Still, the daffodils and hyacinths have emerged, and others can't be too far behind.
